Besides the typical rosy red hues and shimmering metallics, we have pulled together our top three colour themes of the year that can transcend beautifully into the festive season.

From opulent ostrich to the rich purples of the preening peacock, feathers have been all over interiors this year. For Christmas these luxurious tones and precious jewel colours will provide a regal palette with elegant golds adding additional warmth. To perfect this look, choose strong ornaments and baubles that are varied and ornately decorated as this trend is dominated by opulence.

Throughout the year we have seen pastel hues blend seamlessly from the catwalk into interiors. Although not typical winter tones, combined with polished metallics, this trend takes on a clean look for Christmas. Choose clear glass baubles to accentuate the light airy feel of this trend, adding polished silver or copper elements for extra sparkle.

Tartan bears all the hallmarks of a perfect Christmas print. Reminding us of warm winter nights under a plaid blanket, introducing tartan into your Christmas scheme this year will be sure to create a warm and welcoming home. This bold print works best when used on soft accessories, also highlight the traditional tones by combining it with other tactile fabrics such as furs and velvets.
Although trends change, the traditional colours of Christmas will always remain. Whatever style you choose for decorating your home this time around, be sure to hold on to those key pieces that can be used again year after year.
