Cotswolds Barn
Nestled in picturesque countryside, our Cotswolds Barn is the ultimate rustic luxe hideaway, which we designed as a second home for a lovely, longstanding client and their young family.
Responsible not only for the architectural interior design but also the complete refurbishment of the barn, our brief was to create a contemporary, yet comfy weekend retreat with wraparound comforts. The result is an inviting family home which draws on the vernacular of the surrounding area for inspiration. The warm Cotswold stone of this scenic region informed the neutral colour scheme, which features earthy and understated shades of cream and soft grey punctuated with accents of blue.

Situated across one level, this country home is a beautiful example of lateral living at its very best. Entering through contemporary timber doors, you are greeted with an open-plan space that is flooded with natural light. Stunning exposed beams are in visual harmony with the herringbone flooring. A striking floor-to-ceiling feature wall made from silver Emperador marble and inset with a log stove offers a contemporary spin on the traditional fireplace, creating a convivial place to relax and unwind with family and friends. Soft furnishings in accents of petrol blue sit against a sumptuous Piet Boon modular sofa in a muted palette. Statement abstract artwork has been thoughtfully selected to reflect these shades, creating a seamless feel to the whole space.

An industrial-inspired concrete dining table by Bontempi Casa paired with Tom Dixon’s Fat chairs mark a divide between the living and kitchen areas. Soft grey cabinetry in the shaker-style kitchen with a Butler sink and sleek white Smeg appliances continues the balance between classic and contemporary design in this beautiful home.

'We worked closely with specialist artisans to create sculptural pieces of bespoke furniture.'
We worked closely with specialist artisans to create several sculptural pieces of bespoke furniture for this project. This includes two abstract-shaped console tables positioned in the lobby and a spherical coffee table and accompanying side table crafted from solid European oak. In addition, we designed bespoke wardrobes and storage in the master suite and study to house their possessions.

Located off the open-plan living area is the study. This stylish space with a distinctly masculine feel features a display shelf above an L-shaped desk to showcase an eclectic selection of design books and decorative objects. The desk has been designed to accommodate two screens, offering a functional yet inspirational place to work from home.

In the same part of the residence is a Montessori nursery for our client’s young children. A floor bed and low shelving stacked with colourful books and toys make this an inviting space for children to explore their creative independence in a soothing environment. Stunning porthole window and high ceilings ensures this room is light and spacious, whilst a statement neon light and a trio of framed prints makes this a lovely space to spend quality time together as a family.

The master suite also benefits from the same beautiful, exposed wooden beams that can be found throughout the rest of the residence. These tie in seamlessly with the same wood finish on the sliding barn doors, leading the way to the master ensuite bathroom. Chevron porcelain tiles adorn the wall, whilst black trimmed detailing offsets the exposed beams above, creating the perfect balance of rustic and contemporary style. A free-standing bath, walk-in shower, underfloor heating, and a double vanity unit with Carrara marble basins completes this vision of luxury.

'A canopy bed with a striking, black metal frame accentuates the impressive sense of height and space.'
A canopy bed with a striking, black metal frame accentuates the impressive sense of height and space in this room, drawing the eye towards the stunning architecture and generous proportions of this converted barn. Layers of luxurious bedding in calming neutral shades are punctuated by a statement Missoni throw and sage green accent cushions. A bespoke open display case acts as both a stylish storage solution and a space to showcase cherished possessions.
The overall effect is elegant and calming: the ultimate getaway in the heart of the English countryside.
