Interiors With Purpose | Crafting Sustainable Luxury Design

THIS MONTH WE TURN OUR ATTENTION TO HOW WE APPROACH SUSTAINABILITY AND EXPLORE HOW THOUGHTFUL DESIGN AND INTERIORS CAN HELP PROTECT THE WORLD AROUND US. JOIN US AS WE SHARE THE AREAS WE FOCUS ON IN OUR ONGOING JOURNEY TOWARD A MORE SUSTAINABLE FUTURE.

In the studio, we’ve been sharing our favourite ways to spend our free time and a clear theme emerged; time spent outdoors! With the days getting longer, it feels like the perfect moment to soak up some sunshine, top up our vitamin D, and breathe in the fresh air. Inspired by these conversations, it seemed fitting that this month we turn our attention to how we approach sustainability and explore how thoughtful design and interiors can help protect the world around us. Join us as we share the areas we focus on in our ongoing journey toward a more sustainable future.

POSITIVE LUXURY CERTIFIED

We’ve loved working with the team at Positive Luxury and their partnership has shaped how we think about sustainability across the studio. From sustainable strip-outs and reviewing our internal processes to learning more about materials and sourcing thoughtfully, we’ve made sure that sustainability is woven into everything we do. We were incredibly proud when these efforts were recognised with our Positive Luxury certification, for meeting higher standards for people, nature and business. We’re excited to keep learning, improving, and growing with their support.

DESIGNING FOR WELLBEING

Sustainable choices within the home often go hand in hand with enhanced wellbeing, and for many of our clients, this is not simply a preference but a priority embedded within the brief from the beginning of a project. As awareness grows around the impact our environments have on both personal health and the wider world, there is an increasing requirement for interiors that support a healthy, considered way of living. By prioritising natural, responsibly sourced and non-toxic materials, we create spaces that promote healthier indoor air quality while also reducing environmental impact. Thoughtful spatial planning allows for greater natural light and improved ventilation, lessening reliance on artificial systems, while carefully selected finishes are chosen not only for their aesthetic appeal, but for their longevity and integrity.

DESIGNING BEYOND TRENDS

Rather than following fleeting trends, we design timeless, elegant spaces that are created to endure for generations. Our spaces are crafted with intention, selecting materials for their durability and integrity, and making design decisions guided by purpose rather than fast-fashion. By selecting enduring pieces and crafting bespoke designs that stand the test of time, we reduce the need for frequent replacement and help curb the cycle of waste that trend-led design often fuels. Our Thoughtful Luxury ethos ensures that every project is built on this, resulting in interiors that feel just as relevant in ten years as they do today.

RESTORING SPACES WITH LONGEVITY IN MIND

For us, longevity is about leaving spaces better than we found them, bringing them back to life while honouring their past. Projects such as Walpole Mayfair and the Belgravia Townhouse were  both lovingly restored to their former glory, where their architectural beauty and craftsmanship were celebrated. Each space is designed to endure, with thoughtful materials, considered details, and a respect for history that ensures interiors remain relevant and full of character for generations to come.

CELEBRATING BRITISH CRAFT

Being proudly British is a defining part of who we are and there is nothing we love more than collaborating with the finest British artisans to bring our designs to life. As Walpole members, we are fortunate to have access to the world’s leading brands, many of which carry a rich heritage of craft and skill that keeps the heart of our luxury market beating. Working with these artisans not only means we are sourcing closer to home, and reducing environmental impact but it also helps preserve Britain’s rich legacy of craftsmanship and shows our support for those individuals who are using sustainable processes and materials.

KNOWLEDGE SHARING

Being collaborative in our approach is central to the way we work, and sustainable design is always a collective effort. Since becoming Positive Luxury certified, we’ve developed a more structured way of engaging with our suppliers, working together to ensure materials are chosen responsibly and processes continually improved. For us, collaboration is not about closing doors or creating barriers. It is about sharing knowledge openly, offering insights from our own sustainability journey, and giving others access to ideas they may not have considered before. By sharing what we’ve learned, we help elevate our entire network and contribute to a wider, positive industry shift.
