Silversmithing with Asprey
WE WERE DELIGHTED TO BE INVITED BY ASPREY TO SPEND THE MORNING INSIDE THEIR REMARKABLE WORKSHOP IN HAMMERSMITH. GATHERING ALONGSIDE FELLOW DESIGNERS, WE WERE GIVEN THE RARE OPPORTUNITY TO STEP INTO THEIR TREASURE TROVE, WHERE HERITAGE, ARTISTRY AND CRAFTSMANSHIP COME TOGETHER.

Our visit began in the archive, home to some of Asprey’s most exquisite pieces, many of which continue to inspire designs today. Among the treasures, we were particularly drawn to a silver revolving cocktail tray and a collection of timeless platinum and diamond watches, each a testament to the timeless appeal and lasting relevance of Asprey’s classic designs.

Today, Asprey’s collections are well-known around the world. From the playful Gorilla Safe and Bobsleigh Salt and Pepper Shakers to the Rocket-Shaped Cocktail Shaker and Dove Candlesticks, their designs embody a wonderful blend of wit, creativity, and craftsmanship. These distinctive pieces give the brand such warmth and personality, perfectly balancing luxury with a spirited sense of artistry.

As we explored the workshop, we gained a deeper appreciation for the meticulous craft that defines Asprey. Their silversmiths dedicate five years to their apprenticeship alone, honing a mastery that is often passed down through generations. What resonated most throughout our visit was the passion expressed by everyone we met. Whether discussing a centuries-old technique or unveiling a new creative concept, each craftsperson demonstrated a profound pride in both their work and the Asprey legacy.

It was a privilege to witness such artistry first hand, a powerful reminder of the enduring value of true craftsmanship and the inspiration it continues to bring.

Last Thursday, on a crisp autumn morning, we gathered in Berkeley Square for our annual visit to PAD London, one of our favourite highlights in the design calendar. The fair brings together leading designers, collectors, and curators, and it never fails to leave us feeling inspired. Surrounded by remarkable works and many familiar faces from the design world, we spent the day admiring beautiful pieces and noting a few special finds along the way. Here, we share what caught our eye and why we loved it.

Many experts now suggest that February, rather than January, is the best month to begin the year’s resolutions. After the pressure and dreary weather of January, February offers the perfect opportunity to reset and embrace fresh, realistic, and sustainable habits.

As we move into autumn, we continue to be energised by the ‘start of term’ vibes. New launches, the Monaco Yacht Show, inspiring conversations in sustainability and wellness and a continuing appreciation for the importance of home, have been much discussed in the studio over the last few weeks. Join us for a little OBS musings…
