As the Mediterranean season draws to a close, September marks the return of the world-renowned Monaco Yacht Show and as many prepare to discover the latest innovations in marine design and engineering, we were inspired to dedicate this month to “The Rarefied World of Yachting.”

Here we share our considered approach to the detailing required to create vessels that are not only unique, but also deliver the very highest standards of luxury.

In yacht design, collaborating with suppliers requires a highly specialised approach, where every material, finish, and component must meet exacting standards to ensure durability, performance, and seamless integration with the vessel’s environment. The demands of life at sea means that meticulous thought must be given to how each element will perform, withstanding high humidity, resisting the effects of sun and salt, and even mitigating noise.

We work closely with our chosen craftspeople to push the boundaries of what is possible, always respecting the technical and environmental demands of life at sea, and combining both form and function to deliver designs that go beyond the aesthetic.

DESIGNING FOR IMPECCABLE SERVICE

Superyachts are renowned for the impeccable service delivered onboard, where no detail is ever too small. To achieve these exacting standards, it is essential that the crew are involved in the design stages to ensure our work aligns with the service they deliver.

From technical detailing to operational considerations, we work closely with the Captain, First Mate, and Head Steward to ensure every aspect is carefully planned, from how bespoke pieces and accessories are maintained and cleaned to where and how every item is stowed during a passage at sea. For example, doors of all sizes require secure latches, drawers need restraints, and every object must have a custom stowage solution, all of which directly influence joinery, overall design and detailing.

Delivering impeccable service also relies heavily on an environment that supports the theatre of service. Through meticulous spatial planning and close collaboration with the crew, we design spaces that anticipate their movements, allowing them to work with efficiency, discretion, and precision, while upholding the highest standards at all times.

DESIGNING INTERIORS THAT ENHANCE THEIR SURROUNDINGS

It is always a great joy to collaborate closely with our clients, to create original spaces that reflect both their individuality and the spirit of life on the water. The shifting palette of the ocean, sculptural coastlines and the rhythm of the waves inform our designs, but always as refined references rather than literal motifs.

Woven together with the requirements of the type of vessel, the bespoke detailing and a palette shaped by each client’s aspirations, the result is a home on the water that feels both deeply personal and beautifully connected to its setting.

THE DECK AS A DESTINATION

On board, outdoor living is at the heart of the yachting experience. Decks can transform into private sanctuaries, vibrant beach clubs, or launchpads for water toys and adventure. These versatile spaces allow guests to gather, unwind, and immerse themselves in panoramic views, while also offering the freedom to enjoy swimming, diving, or water sports directly from the yacht.

We approach each outdoor environment with the same care as the interiors, with designs tailored to their specific function. Lounging decks are crafted for relaxation and socialising, using soft textures and comfortable furnishings to create serene, inviting spaces. In contrast, beach clubs and launchpad areas balance style with practicality, incorporating durable materials, clever storage, and flexible layouts that accommodate toys and equipment. Every element is curated to enhance comfort, functionality, and style, ensuring each outdoor space serves its purpose while offering the ultimate yachting experience.

A SENSE OF HOME, WHEREVER YOU ARE

Even at sea, there remains a desire for the familiarity and comfort of home. For our clients, there might be a signature scent, a particular colour palette, or even a specific material that they want to include in the design of their residences, as well as their yacht. For example, we had a recent presentation for our Belgrave Square project, where the Principal referenced the rare onyx used on his yacht, so naturally, we found a way to incorporate it into his penthouse too. Our approach is to understand each client’s style and thoughtfully integrate these personal references, creating spaces that are distinctive yet always feel like home, thoughtful luxury in practice.
