The Art of Wellbeing | Interior Design for Wellness

Once primarily associated with fitness, wellbeing has since become an all-encompassing way of life, one that is now deeply embedded within the home. More than ever, our interiors are designed to offer a retreat away from the demands of modern life. This month, we are reflecting on how the home can foster wellness and how thoughtful design can align with a more conscious way of living.

We often speak about our ethos of Thoughtful Luxury and how it underpins everything we do. In conversations with our clients, collaborators, and team, it’s clear that the meaning of luxury is evolving. No longer defined solely by materiality, luxury today is increasingly measured in time, space, and the ability to nurture our wellbeing. At the Walpole Luxury Summit earlier this year, it was Chris Sanderson, Founder & CEO, The Future Laboratory who gave an inspirational talk on the New Codes of Luxury: Longevity & Wellbeing Strategies Report. Sharing his findings from his report on how UHNWIs are shifting their beliefs and realising that we are our most valuable asset.

THE MINDFUL HOME

Looking back at the residences we’ve designed in recent years, many of our clients come to us with a desire for homes that feel like sanctuaries.

But designing a sanctuary means something different to everyone. To design mindfully, we begin by understanding each client’s values and lifestyle, how they spend their day-to-day, and how they want to feel. This insight forms the foundation of our design and ensures we create homes that areas personal as they are purposeful.

BIOPHILIC DESIGN

While many of our clients homes are in the heart of Prime Central London, our clients often seek a calming connection to nature. Biophilic design allows us to embed nature within the architecture itself. Whether through indoor trees and living walls, the use of natural stone, water sculptures, or textured materials, these features can transform even urban residences into restorative environments that feel deeply connected to the natural world.

HEALTH AS WEALTH

As more of us invest in becoming the healthiest versions of ourselves, home wellness spaces have become a priority. Private gyms and saunas are now commonplace, but there is also an emergence of medical grade facilities including cryotherapy chambers and biohacking suites in private residences, allowing clients to seamlessly maintain their wellness routines in the comfort of their own homes.

But wellness is also found in the less visible details. From non-toxic paints to responsibly sourced finishes, smart air filtration to low-EMF environments, every element can be curated to support physical wellbeing while staying true to sustainability and a mindful approach to our environmental impact.

COLOUR PSYCHOLOGY

Colour plays a powerful, often subconscious role in shaping our emotions and the atmosphere of a room. Through the thoughtful application of colour in wallcoverings and accents, we can influence how a space makes us feel.

We consider how and when each room is used, designing with intention to support its purpose. For example, subtle hints of yellow can boost morning energy, while calming tones like cornflower blue encourage serenity and relaxation before a restorative night’s sleep.

SPACE FOR RITUALS

Wellbeing often begins with the small, everyday rituals that ground us. These moments are often personal and unique to each individual and can be gently nurtured through intentional design.

Whether it’s a kitchen designed for preparing nourishing meals, a breakfast room that invites screen-free connection, or a dressing room that offers a peaceful start to the day, we craft spaces that honour our clients’ lives. These rituals, though seemingly simple, form the foundation of a balanced lifestyle and when supported by thoughtful design, they become quiet acts of luxury.

AWAKENING THE SENSES

Design can be felt through every sense, not just what we see, but what we touch, hear, and even smell. Our sensory approach transforms the home into a deeply personal experience, where every element is curated to evoke presence and emotion.

A bespoke home fragrance, for instance, creates a signature scent that welcomes you the moment you step through the door. Touch is engaged through materials like silk carpets underfoot, offering softness and warmth from the start of our day. The architecture is guided by thoughtful spatial planning which aligns natural daylight with our clients daily routine. Energising morning gym sessions and casting golden hour across the dining room.

This careful layering of sensory elements forms what we call a multi-sensory approach. A design philosophy that delivers elegant, quietly luxurious spaces that are felt, rather than formulaic.
